Project Overview

Accelerant is a specialty insurance company that operates as a data-driven risk exchange, connecting specialty underwriters with risk capital providers. Their platform, InSightFull, aggregates and analyzes data throughout the insurance value chain, offering tools and insights on claims statistics, loss information, and premium flows. This technology empowers Managing General Agents (MGAs) and Program Administrators (PAs) to make informed underwriting decisions and access stable, diversified portfolios. Accelerant’s services are designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and growth within the specialty insurance sector.

Solution

Project Balance was invited to build an internal technical support team for business users processing their bordereau business through their data load, transformation, and reporting systems. Working with Accelerant Production Operations and the product development teams, Project Balance established an incident management process where team members monitor incoming tickets and perform data and code fixes to any data or code that is in production. The team analyzes the problem by examining how the data moves from one system to another and is joined and transformed. Issues vary widely and may take multiple steps to fix. Deep knowledge of the systems and data use is required to fix problems in a timely manner.

The team is also responsible for the end-of-month financial processing, which is a multi-day and multi-step process, resulting in data moving into downstream financial and reinsurance systems. Monthly reports may also need to be run.

As Accelerant operates in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States, the Project Balance team is split into the UK and US teams to provide full support coverage.

Specialization

The Project Balance team is a cohesive team working closely together to assist each other in resolving problems and handing off work from one time zone to another so that issues are resolved as quickly as possible. The computing systems at Accelerant are very complicated. From data entry by the business users through to end reports, the volume of data, the many transformations and calculations, and different end users of the data make learning the system challenging. Figuring out why a process failed or mismatches of data between systems is a special skill that the Project Balance team has mastered.

The Application Support team is an important and highly relied-on resource within the Accelerant technology team. Business users have come to depend on our team’s excellent skills and responsiveness to ensure the smooth processing of business for Accelerant customers.
