As data becomes more available through technological advances and a higher emphasis on evidenced-based programs, the need to analyze data across complex and large datasets also increases. Project Balance helps clients to develop data warehouses overlaid with business intelligence platforms to analyze very large datasets and define a data structure to ensure high performance when querying the data. Project Balance recognizes that over time and as users become more experienced, there will be a growing demand for access to other data and reports. We design and architect the system to be future-proofed to allow for growth over time.
It’s not unusual for an organization to have data sources from disparate information systems in varying formats. Project Balance can take this fragmented data environment and integrate it into a well-organized data warehouse available to the organization for program and operational use. Our approach is to work with key stakeholders to hold a requirements workshop to document user needs and goals of the data warehouse. This activity involves analysis of the source systems to determine what data is available, how it should be organized and how it should be represented in the warehouse. The outcome of this process is a high level architectural design, the vision, data sets, business rules for reports, and business intelligence platform for visualization and reporting. Using the results from the requirement analysis, we carry out an analysis of the dataset to develop a data model to allow high-performance data access. We develop and automate the Extract, Transform, Load process and the ETL produces exception reports used to improve data quality.
One of Project Balance’s key strength is attention to detail. Project Balance works tirelessly to document, review, and re-iterate on key business rules. Our staff verify the data and the business rules implementation through a quality assurance process using queries and cross checks with manually generated reports. We may also create dummy datasets to check report and graphical displays.
We perform the collection, integration and transformation of large volumes of data, with data structures ranging from simple to complex. Our business analysts work with you to detail the transformation business rules and our programmers create script packages that refresh data warehouse databases as per the needs of the project. Our certified staff verify the data mapping at a granular level.
Project Balance excels at software development and it is central to almost every project in our portfolio. The key to the success of our software development work is including our clients in project decision-making throughout the project starting from requirements gathering through to end user training. This approach ensures long-term sustainability and maintenance of the application. We know that communication with clients about project status, deliverables and challenges through schedule documentation and mid-project demonstrations is essential for establishing a team oriented and innovative environment for optimal productivity.

Agile Approach
For all of our projects, Project Balance follows agile software development principles that emphasize close communication and collaboration with the client, demonstrable software at each phase, and responding to change to optimize business value. For single software tool development we gather all of the requirements upfront and then split up the development into discrete iterations with demonstrable deliverables. For ongoing projects that may span several years, we plan for a 4-6 month development horizon with periodic product updates/deployments.
